Motrin-I'm Disappointed.

I got a forward to the Motrin website that had a negative ad about mothers who wear their babies on it.  I think they already took it down due to the huge response from mothers who felt like their ad was offensive.  Here is a link to another mom-blog that has the script from it (and a humorous response to the ad).  It doesn't do justice seeing the actual video ad--but I am thankful they listened to their consumers!

As a baby-weared...there ad is true. I don't love wearing my baby...my back hurts, i'm tired, my knees hurt more and i ONLY do it because it makes Jack happy SOMETIMES. I think there is a lot of information (true or not) out there associated with baby-wearing and attachment parenting that is putting A LOT of undue stress on moms. I read motrins ad, sitting as my back hurts from carrying jack in a sling most days, thinking, wow...maybe i'll take some mortin. I certainly didn't see the negativity, but, rather, saw some empathy--empathy that allows me to say "Ah, i'm not the only one who doesn't think this is the bees-knees of mother-hood...i hurt!"

@Larkin -- I think that, while they were trying to convey empathy, the ad just didn't come across like that, at least for me. I don't think anyone would argue that they're ad is not true. It just came off less sympathetic than they meant it.

I'm sorry to hear that some of the more... uh... staunch supporters of the "attachment parenting" philosophy have put a lot of undue stress on moms. We have a difficult enough time as it is without getting advice from fifty million different directions on how to raise our kids!
